Christmas by Candlelight 2023

The Christmas by Candlelight concert on 2nd December 2023 went ahead and was attended by nearly 200 people who enjoyed a wonderful performance in a very atmospheric setting.  Sadly the concert had to be curtailed to one hour by Royal Northern Sinfonia, due to their concern about getting back safely to Gateshead in such unexpectedly bad weather conditions.

We are especially grateful to the amazingly kind people who offered overnight accommodation to fellow attendees who were stranded in Kendal.

The concert was jointly funded in partnership by Royal Northern Sinfonia and Lakeland Sinfonia Concert Society, and all of the costs of the concert have to be paid irrespective of the number of people attending. Therefore neither party is able to offer refunds to people who were unable to attend. 

Since Covid, all concerts organised by Lakeland Sinfonia have run at a significant financial loss to the charity due to reduced audience sizes, and we no longer have the financial reserves to pay refunds as well as meet all our cost commitments. We are grateful for the many expressions of thanks and donations that we have received for our concert series, and sincerely hope that our remaining four concerts this season take place in better circumstances.
