Our Orchestra

Every year, Lakeland Sinfonia brings together gatherings of great local musicians for four concerts, each performed under a professional conductor with a renowned soloist.

Lakeland Sinfonia is the Society’s own orchestra, comprising musicians from across the north-west of England. They are principally freelance professionals, peripatetic instrument teachers, many of them based in Cumbria, plus retired or semi-retired professional orchestra players.

The Artistic Director and Leader of the orchestra is Martin Hughes, and Fay Sweet, Principal Viola, is the Artists’ Secretary.

Frequent conductors include Welsh conductor Wyn Davies, and Philip Ellis

The Lakeland Sinfonia orchestra is based in Kendal, where rehearsals and performances are held. Aspiring new players are welcome to contact us for an initial discussion, ideally with the section principal appropriate for your instrument or with Fay Sweet
